Tonsillitis & Mouth Pain

When throat infections or oral discomfort won’t go away

Sore Throat That Keeps Coming Back? Or Trouble Swallowing?

Dr. Peerbaccus evaluates recurrent tonsillitis, mouth pain, and related ENT conditions in both adults and children — offering lasting solutions beyond antibiotics.

What Is Tonsillitis?

Tonsillitis is an inflammation of the tonsils, the two lymph nodes at the back of your throat. It’s often caused by viral or bacterial infections — most commonly Group A Streptococcus.

Symptoms include:

◎  Severe sore throat
◎  Fever and chills
◎  Swollen, red tonsils (often with white patches)
◎  Pain when swallowing
◎  Bad breath
◎  Neck gland swelling

When Is It More Than Just a Sore Throat?

Seek ENT advice if you or your child have:

◎  3+ infections in 6 months
◎  Difficulty eating or swallowing
◎  Missed school/work due to throat pain
◎  Recurrent bad breath or mouth ulcers
◎  Suspected abscess (quinsy)
◎  Sleep-disordered breathing due to tonsil size

Causes of Mouth Pain That Aren’t Tonsillitis

◎  Canker sores / ulcers
◎  Viral infections (herpes, Coxsackie)
◎  TMJ dysfunction
◎  Poor dental hygiene
◎  Sinus or throat referred pain
◎  Nutritional deficiencies or autoimmune conditions

Dr. Peerbaccus screens for ENT causes and refers when needed.

Treatment Options

◎  Short-course antibiotics (if bacterial)
◎  Anti-inflammatory therapy
◎  Saltwater gargles, mouthwash, hydration
◎  Surgical consultation for tonsillectomy
◎  Treatment for contributing conditions (e.g. reflux, allergies)
