Repeated ENT Infections in Children

Does your child often have:
– Frequent nasal congestion or runny nose
– Repeated episodes of sore throat
– Persistent earaches or ear infections

Are these issues recurring, lasting over several weeks, or not fully resolving with usual treatment?

✅ What This Means

These symptoms—especially when they come back again and again—suggest that a standard pediatric exam may not be enough. Chronic ENT issues like sinusitis, enlarged adenoids, or ear infections may need a specialist’s evaluation.

Dr. Peerbaccus can perform endoscopic assessment, imaging (when needed), and targeted treatment to address the root cause—not just relieve symptoms.

Recurrent infections of the upper airway in children are commonly linked to enlarged adenoid tissue.
The adenoids are small lymphatic structures located behind the nose, and when they become hypertrophied, they can contribute to:
– Frequent ear, nose, and throat (ENT) infections
– Nasal congestion and mouth breathing
– Disturbed sleep and paediatric sleep apnoea

This chronic disruption can impact a child’s growth, behaviour, and learning, due to reduced oxygenation during sleep.

What Can Be Done?

During a consultation, Dr. Peerbaccus will assess the condition and discuss a tailored management plan with the parents.
In selected cases, a minor surgical procedure to remove the adenoid tissue (called an adenoidectomy) may be recommended.

Benefits of adenoid removal may include:
– Reduced frequency of infections
– Improved nasal breathing
– Better oxygen levels during sleep
– Overall improvement in daytime energy and wellbeing

Should I see a paediatrician or an ENT for frequent ENT infection of my child?

Dr Peerbaccus regularly treats children with ENT infections. He works closely with a team of paediatricians to develop an optimised treatment plan for his paediatric patients.

Can repeated ENT infections be cured in children?

Since adenoid tissue is usually the source of the repeated runny nose, sore throat and bronchitis, by removing the inflammatory tissue at the back of the nose, the source of bacteria can be eliminated and cure your child from repeated infections.

The advantage is a net reduction in the use of antibiotics and improved general health for your child.
